# Sessions

> Schedule trainings, shifts and everything else your group runs, with seats people claim.

A session is anything your community puts on a calendar. Cove schedules it,
fills the seats, and announces it in Discord.

## Session types

Five come set up. Rename them or add your own — up to twelve — in **Settings →
Sessions**.

| Type | Typically |
| --------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Shift | A rota slot somebody covers |
| Training | Teaching a group something |
| Interview | One applicant at a time |
| Meeting | Your team, not the public |
| Event | Anything the community turns up to |

## Seats

A seat is a job rather than a headcount. Four come set up, and you can add up
to sixteen of your own.

| Seat | Notes |
| --------- | ------------------------------- |
| Host | Runs the session |
| Co-Host | Second in command |
| Trainer | Teaches, on a training |
| Spectator | Watching rather than running it |

A claimable seat can be taken by anybody in the workspace. A seat that isn't
claimable has to be assigned, so the host slot on a training doesn't go to
whoever refreshed fastest.

## Running one

A session moves through **Scheduled → Live → Ended**, and can be cancelled at
any point. The bot announces it in the channel you choose, so people find out
where they already are.

<Note>
Sessions can be scheduled up to a year ahead, with a capacity of 25 each.
</Note>

## Permissions

Three rather than one, so you can let somebody run trainings without handing
them everybody else's calendar.

| Permission | What it allows |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Create sessions | Schedule a session and claim a seat on it |
| Manage any session | Edit or cancel somebody else's, and assign its seats |
| Change session settings | Types, seats, and where sessions are announced |
