# Errors

> Every error code and what it means.

Errors come back as JSON with a `code` and a `message`.

| Code | Status | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| `missing_key` | 401 | No key was sent. |
| `invalid_key` | 401 | The key doesn't exist, was revoked, or was rolled. |
| `key_expired` | 401 | The key's expiry date has passed. |
| `ip_not_allowed` | 403 | The key has an address list, and this address isn't on it. |
| `missing_permission` | 403 | The key doesn't have the permission the endpoint needs. |
| `wrong_key_kind` | 403 | A store's key on a workspace endpoint, or the other way round. |
| `owner_suspended` | 403 | The workspace is suspended, or the store is paused. |
| `rate_limited` | 429 | Too many requests this minute. `Retry-After` says when to try again. |
| `quota_exceeded` | 429 | The month's requests are used up. They reset on the 1st, UTC. |
| `bad_request` | 400 | Something sent is missing or the wrong shape. The message says which. |
| `not_found` | 404 | Nothing at that endpoint, or nothing matching what was asked for. |
